ADAIR COUNTY AMBULANCE DISTRICT EARNS NATIONAL ACCREDIATION

The Adair County Ambulance District has been awarded accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services.

Adair County Ambulance District (ACAD), located in Adair County, Kirksville, Missouri, has received accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulances Services (CAAS) for its compliance with national standards of excellence. Adair County Ambulance District is one of 183 ambulance services in the country to successfully complete the voluntary review process, which included completion of a comprehensive application and an on-site review by national experts in emergency medical services (EMS). With this achievement Adair County Ambulance District becomes the second ambulance district and only the third ambulance service in the State of Missouri to be awarded accreditation.

The Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance services is a non-profit organization which was established to encourage and promote quality patient care in America’s medical transportation system.  The primary focus of the Commission’s standards is high-quality patient care. This is accomplished by establishing national standards which not only address the delivery of patient care, but also the ambulance service’s total operation and its relationships with other agencies, the general public, and the medical community. The Commission’s standards most often exceed state or local licensing requirements.

ACAD has been working toward CAAS accreditation for several years. “The team at ACAD is extremely proud of this accomplishment. It literally took us years to get here and now that it’s complete there is a huge sense of relief and pride. Our entire team is responsible for the successful completion of the process,” said Larry Burton, Executive Director. “Everyone here played a valuable role in our ability to meet the Commission’s high standards. We have achieved accreditation but I believe it can only be a stimulus for continued improvement”.

CAAS accreditation is a proud accomplishment not only for the ACAD team, but also for everyone in Adair County. ACAD Board of Directors Chairperson Bill Crnic said,” The entire team has been working extremely hard to make this happen and it gives the Board great pride to be able to say we are nationally accredited. As elected representatives of the citizens of Adair County we know that ACAD stands apart from most other EMS agencies in the Country and we are proud to be a part of this important achievement”.
