Course Description
The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) course prepares EMS providers to offer both basic and limited advanced emergency care and transport for patients accessing the EMS system.
As an AEMT, you are the crucial link between emergency scenes and the hospital system — equipped with advanced tools, clinical judgment, and a heart for service.
A successful AEMT graduate will be able to:
- Provide patient care using both basic and advanced equipment found on an ambulance.
- Communicate effectively — both verbally and in writing.
- Understand and work within the scope of EMS protocols and team environments.
- Demonstrate self-awareness, empathy, and professionalism.
- Perform limited pharmacologic interventions and advanced procedures safely and confidently.
Hands-on practice is the foundation of confidence in the field.
Program Qualifications
To enroll in this course, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a valid EMT license.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Be of good mental and physical health, able to lift one hundred pounds.
- Be a U.S. citizen or have legal authorization to work in the U.S.
Course Pre-Requisites
- Valid BLS CPR card
- High School diploma or G.E.D.
- Valid email address and regular access to a computer
- Willingness to undergo a background check and drug screening (initiated after Day 1)
Clinical Requirements
Clinical training is a vital part of your AEMT education and must be fully completed to be eligible for course completion and NREMT testing.
Total Clinical Hours: 176
- 96 Hours in Ambulance Field Internship
- 80 Hours in Hospital Clinical Rotations
